Why do I need a tensioner?

Tire chain tensioners, also known as chain adjusters or chain tighteners, are used to ensure that the tire chains remain securely in place on the tires while driving. They serve several important purposes:

1.      Proper Fit: Tire chains need to fit snugly around the tires to provide optimal traction. Tensioners help to maintain the correct tension and prevent the chains from becoming loose or dislodged during use. They help keep the chains in place and ensure they remain properly aligned with the tire treads.

2.      Safety: Adequate tension in tire chains is crucial for safe driving. If the chains are loose or improperly fitted, they can shift or come off the tires, posing a safety risk. Tensioners help to minimize chain movement and reduce the likelihood of chains getting tangled or causing damage to the vehicle or other road users.

3.      Enhanced Performance: Well-tensioned tire chains improve their effectiveness in providing traction on snow, ice, or other slippery road surfaces. Proper tension helps the chains grip the road better, increasing traction and enhancing the vehicle's stability and control in challenging driving conditions.

4.      Tire Protection: Tire chain tensioners help to distribute the tension evenly across the chains, reducing the likelihood of excessive wear or damage to the tires. They minimize the risk of the chains digging into the tire sidewalls or causing abrasion due to excessive movement or rubbing.

It's important to note that different types of tire chains may require specific tensioners or tightening mechanisms. The tire chain manufacturer's instructions should be followed carefully to ensure proper installation and use of the tensioners.
